Dengue hits Gurgaon posh colonies

Gurgaon News: The dengue is once again spreading across Gurgaon. This year the majority of cases are being reported from posh residential areas of DLF, Sushant Lok, Sectors-53, 55 and 56. Health department officials said that as many as 84 confirmed cases of dengue have come to notice so far this year.

Said chief medical officer Dr S S Dalal: "Out of these 84 cases, 79 are from Gurgaon and the rest are from Delhi. Most patients are undergoing treatment at private hospitals. But all the patients are out of danger." He added that they were waiting for the test reports of other 36 suspected cases, which have been sent to the National Institute of Communicable Disease (NICD).

Dalal said the department has no power to issue challans or slap fines on defaulters if dengue mosquitoes were found breeding like it is in Delhi. "We have no option but to intensifying fogging," he said.

District malaria officer Dr Krishan Kumar said majority of the positive cases reported last year were from old Gurgaon.
